BLIZZARD WARNING Sat Feb 14 into Sun Feb 15

The National Weather Service has now upgraded the Storm Warning for our area to a Blizzard Warning. Make preparations for this dangerous storm now. Complete road travel before sunset today. Be prepared to remain indoors until this storm subsides Sunday evening.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD
WARNING…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 4 AM EST
MONDAY. THE WINTER STORM WARNING HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
* ACCUMULATIONS…SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 6 TO 10 INCHES.
* LOCATIONS…NEWPORT AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES…INCLUDING BLOCK
ISLAND.
* HAZARD TYPES…BLIZZARD CONDITIONS…INCLUDING HEAVY SNOW…POOR
VISIBILITIES…AND STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS.
* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…6 TO 10 INCHES.
* TIMING…SNOW ARRIVES THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUES INTO THIS
EVENING. AFTER A BRIEF LULL LATE THIS EVENING…MORE SNOW
ARRIVES LATE TONIGHT. THE WORST CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE
LATE TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY EVENING.
* IMPACTS…TRAVEL WILL BECOME NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE AND POTENTIALLY
LIFE THREATENING DUE TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS. CONDITIONS WILL
REMAIN DANGEROUS FOR TRAVEL WELL INTO SUNDAY DUE TO BLOWING AND
DRIFTING SNOW…RESULTING IN REDUCED VISIBILITY. POWER OUTAGES
CAN BE EXPECTED AT SOME LOCATIONS DUE TO VERY STRONG WINDS…
ESPECIALLY THOSE TOWARD THE IMMEDIATE COASTS.
* WINDS…NORTHWEST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH.
* VISIBILITIES…ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A WINTER STORM WARNING IS ISSUED FOR MORE THAN 6 INCHES OF SNOW.
TRAVEL SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON. AVOID
TRAVELING DURING THE STORM IF POSSIBLE.
A BLIZZARD WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS OR FREQUENT
GUSTS OVER 35 MPH ARE EXPECTED WITH CONSIDERABLE FALLING AND/OR
BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. VISIBILITIES WILL BECOME POOR WITH
WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES. THOSE VENTURING OUTDOORS MAY
BECOME LOST OR DISORIENTED…SO PERSONS IN THE WARNING AREA ARE
ADVISED TO STAY INDOORS.
