National Grid hosted a conference call this morning to update communities on the electric power supply situation:
A low probability exists that brownouts or rolling blackouts may become necessary today or tomorrow. All National Grid customers are urged to conserve electric power during this period.
Power reductions (brownouts) will be implemented in the event that electric power demand exceeds generation capacity.
In the most extreme circumstances, rolling blackouts may become necessary. Rolling blackouts, if implemented, may be expected to occur on 2 hour off / 2 hour on cycles. No advance warning of impending blackouts can be provided. Provisions are in place to keep electric power flowing to hospitals during blackouts.
National Grid will provide another update at 6:00 PM this evening. Any significant new developments will be posted here on the PortsmouthEmergency blog.
